Winter Solstice is this Saturday, Dec. 21. On this, the shortest day of the year, the sun stops moving southward, pauses, and then starts moving northward. This pause is called the “solstice,” from the Latin words “sol” for “sun” and “sisto” for “stop.”

solsticeSince June 21st, the Summer Solstice, the days have been getting shorter, or rather the daylight hours have been dwindling, leaving us in darkness more than light. With the winter solstice the cycle reverses and we begin to enjoy more light in our days. And with that light comes newness.

Winter Solstice is a perfect time to stop, pause and reflect over the past and plan for the coming year. We need to take the time to pause physically and mentally, rest, re-energize during this busy season. Let time stop, just breathe….

Even now – just take a deep breath and know more light is on its way for all in the Northern hemisphere.

And with the New Year fast approaching some people like to ‘smudge’ their homes, and perhaps themselves, of any unhealthy or negative energizes. Once these energies are gone there will be plenty of room for more positive energy.

At Libre we love new starts and the New Year is a great time for that – so think it over and see what fits for you as your best way to cultivate more light in your life.

We will be featuring ‘healthy habits’ in January and look forward to hearing about your resolutions for your best self in 2014. As the days bring us more light, warms us with its glow, enabling new growth, we can flourish with the positive energy. Cultivating light in our own daily lives enhances our daily lives physically and spiritually and then we can share our own light and reflect positivity into the world.

Tea moments with Libre give a wonderful opportunity to rest, reflect and simply breathe.

Please ponder and share how you will grow your light in the days, weeks and months ahead.

Reflecting on this past year, I greet each day as a gift…that each day is a renewal with my best intentions which I set upon rising each morning.

As I approach the darkness of winter, I take time to enjoy the solitude, the rest, the healing,

I look towards 2014 with gratitude, being more kind to myself & to those I care about, creating, celebrating and continuing my positive transformation towards my goals.

May the river of life carry me on a happy journey.

Happy Solstice! I’m embracing the coming of the light, but not begrudging the dark of what has past or what may come. For there is no light without the dark. All is exactly as it should be and I’m going to trust more and fear less.

Usually I remember the twice a year solstices, but this year it took a poem from a poetry workshop to tickle me. The sunset on Saturday was stupendous with balmy weather in the high 50’s to match. Everybody was out soaking in the sun rays before the dark settled in and down. I have a friend who had 8 kids and she collected sunsets, because they take up no room.

It is an exciting time, for me it means lighter days and it marks the fact that spring is only getting closer every day. My spring ticker is counting it down. I have started a new art class, this will bring growth for me, and I am looking forward to the light it will bring.

I plan on trying to get more healthy in 2014 by improving upon my diet and getting more exercise. I also plan on trying to tell my husband and children everyday that I love them and to not take them for granted.

I am being more positive, less demanding, allowing the light in!! That’s a big one for me to let go and just let it happen. It feels good and I make progress everyday & breathe!

The light in my life is my family…. will spend each day telling them how much I love them. Even the big babies (grown-up children) need to hear that.

I will grow my light by my intentions to be more mindful of how i speak and act. I am trying to be more relaxed and less tense – just go with the flow so to speak.
